As children were bringing home pillowcases filled with enough candy to feed small armies Sunday, local dentists were kicking off an initiative designed to save the trick-or-treaters' teeth and help the troops in the process.

This is a new trend for dentists to buy back candy after Halloween and send it off to the military. There's even a web site "Halloween Candy Buyback" to find a participating dentist near you. The Halloween candy buy-back program allows kids, and their parents, to sell their leftover treats for $1 per pound and have the sugary sweetness sent to U.S. troops serving in harm's way via Operation Gratitude.
